Research on access to abortion services, 2015

Institute of social studies and analysis by the order of organization “Hera XXI” conducted a sociological research that had several goals:

• Evaluation of safe abortion methods and access to reproductive health of women in Georgia;
• Evaluation of safe abortion services and quality checking in Georgia; Study the practices existing in the family;
• Family planning assessment in relation to Millennium Development Goals;

Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used to achieve the goal. An expert in healthcare was actively involved in several stages of the research.

In the frames of qualitative research 5 focus groups were conducted with reproductive women in Georgia in the following cities: Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Marneuli Mtskheta.

Within the scope of quantitative research, representatives of medical institutions operating in Georgia, where abortion service is offered, were interviewed using the face-to-face interview method. Medical institutions have been sampled based on the list provided by the Ministry of Labor, Health, and Social Affairs. In total 200 respondents were interviewed.
