Qualitative research

Within the frames of qualitative research, the Institute of Social Studies and Analysis uses the following methods:

  • Semi-structured interview, focus group;
  • Expert interview, biographical-narrative interview and life story;
  • Participant observation and ethnographic research;
  • Secondary data analysis and expert assessment of various socio-cultural problems;
  • Discourse analysis;
  • Approach based on triangulation (simultaneous usage of various mixed methods).

The offices of ISSA are equipped with the necessary material and technical equipment for conducting focus groups (discussion room, technical equipment for recording discussion, space to observe discussion, etc.).

In the case of qualitative research, 11 supervisors from the regions of Georgia take part in the recruitment of focus group participants. The supervisors have long-term experience in organizing focus groups.

In terms of qualitative data analysis, ISSA uses the analysis of texts and narratives, as well as visual analysis. As per the research strategy, researchers choose thematic or holistic approaches.
